Michelle Turley grew up on a ranch in Deming, New Mexico, where music was an integral part of her family life. Her dad fronted a band called “The Playboys” and her mom, and accomplished vocalist, taught piano.

When Michelle was in her teens, she was spotted by a scout for the famed Ford Modeling Agency. Within weeks, she and her mom, (as chaperone) were in New York, where Michelle’s worldwide modeling career began.

Meanwhile Michelle pursued her interest in music by writing songs. Now, off the runway, she is fulfilling her dream of making music her career. Her firs single is called “Caroline.”

Adam and Zac Hooper grew up in Cleveland, Georgia, with a father who liked music ranging from Bruce Springsteen and Pink Floyd to Johnny Cash and Charlie Daniels. The brothers put their music careers on hold and were working in their family’s restaurant when Adam began collaboration with John Milldrum, an Alabama-based musician he’d met on the regional band circuit.

The trio soon became “Houston County” named for the southern Alabama county where John lived. Their self-titled debut CD showcases such songs as the upbeat and summery “Workin’ on a Suntan,” and “Nothing’s Gonna Shake Me” (a declaration of steadfast love.) Their poignat first single is called, “I can’t Make It Rain,”

While the “Twilight: New Moon” soundtrack draws blood atop the album charts, the CW’s “The Vampire Diaries” has been casting its own hypnotic spell with moody, atmospheric songs by bands so indie and hip even Edward Cullen might need to Google them.

“There’s something about the indie artists that really works well for our vibe.” says co-executive producer Julie Plec, stressing that the tunes heard in “Vampire Diaries” aren’t just background music, but help advance the romance and drama of Damon, Elena and Stefan.

For example:the gorgeous “Gravity” by torch singer Sara Bareilles, which Plec chose for Stefan and Elena’s first kiss. Or the aptly titled “Beauty of the Dark” by Danish artist Mads Langer, heard during Elena’s realization that Stefan is a vampire. Even a Moby cover of a New Order song, “Temptation,” popped up in the “Friday Night Bites” football episode, as Damon stood over Elena’s bed. “You get a sense of both his darkness and his humanity.” Plec says of the scene, which originally featured a song by Death Cab for Cutie, (a New Moon” artist.) “We have to work hard to not sound too much like the “Twilight” soundtracks.” Plec says. “But the success for them musically can only help us.” Plec says “Vampire Diaries” producers hope to release a CD of songs used on the show, soon.

Carrie Underwood’s “Play On”

If it seems vaguely insulting to call the smashingly successful “Idol” alum’s material formulaic, know at least that it is, three albums in, one of the most well-honed formulas in the business.

Underwood’s MO is equal parts good-riddance-to-bad-boys stompers like, (“Cowboy Casanova,” and “Undo it”) and fervent balladry like, (“Mama’s Song,” and “Change”) consistently serves her well. The saucy stuff, which she embodies with appealing verve, tends to eclipse those ballads, too reliant on Hallmark-card sentimentality.

Her vocal ability remains beyond reproach; a crack in the immaculate veneer, however, would be welcome too.

Jennifer’s “Lola”

Jennifer Lopez is back and has unleashed her sizzling new alter ego, “Lola” on surprised fans. She treated club goers to her new video, fresh out of the studio with Pit Bull. All part of a non stop day in the life of Jennifer and husband Marc Anthony. A duet, a Dolphin’s game and a distinguished award for Marc . Jennifer will perform her song at the ABC’s American Music awards on November 22, 2009.

Justin Bieber, A Pop Star at 15

Justin Timberlake and Usher both wanted to work with this 15-year-old kid after his videos took off on YouTube. Now he has two hit singles and a ton of tweenage fans! It’s easy to underestimate Justin Bieber.

Check out the videos for the teen singer’s two hit singles-the bouncy puppy-love anthems “One Time” and “One Less Lonely Girl”- and you’ll see a dewy kid who looks more lie a life size “Tiger Beat” pullout that a legit musician. But the 15-year-old’s growing fan base-including Usher, who signed him to a record deal last year-insists he’s the real deal, a music prodigy whose debut album, “My World” (out November 17) could add one more Justin to the pop-music “A” list!

“NEW MOON” SOUNDTRACK

The soundtrack for The Twilight Saga: “New Moon” arrives a month before the movie hits theaters on November 20. This soundtrack comes with big expectations after last year’s “Twilight” soundtrack went double platinum!

Music supervisor, Alexandra Patsavas is once again at the helm. The “New Moon” album is moody and brooding delivering new tracks by such alternative A-listers as Thom Yorke, the Killers and Death Cab for Cutie (on the atmospheric first single, “Meet Me on the Equinox”) This disc also showcases some lesser-known indie acts, like British rockers “Band of Skulls”, that are worthy of their moment in the “Moonlight”.

Carrie Underwood’s Symphony Salute

Carrie Underwood will receive the 2009 Harmony Award at the Nashville Symphony’s annual invitation-only fundraising ball, set for December 12 at Schermerhorn Symphony Center.

The award was created to salute people who demonstrate commitment to the development of Nashville’s musical culture. Previous recipients include Rascal Flatts, Martina McBride, Trisha Yearwood, Dolly Parton, The Judds, Vince Gill, LeAnn Rimes and Chet Atkins.

Movie Music for Taylor?

Taylor Swift may write and record a new song for “Valentine’s Day”, the upcoming movie in which she appears. “We hope she does,” director Gary Marshall said. “But when people write songs, they always want to see the movie. Tailor is not any different, she wants to see the part that she’s in.” Unfortunately it’s not finished yet. The veteran director said he had hoped Taylor would have a bigger role in the ensemble romantic comedy, but her touring schedule didn’t allow her much time for filming.

“Valentine’s Day” is set for release February 12.
