One time Nashville Star winner Chris Young had some difficulty making a breakthrough at country radio before his previous single, the frisky “Getting You Home” (The Black Dress Song), became a No. 1 hit in October.
The follow-up could easily repeat that success, as Chris’ fine-grained classic-county voice takes on a rock-solid ballad about he universal desire for redemption. Written by veteran hit making tune smiths Brett James and Tim Nichols, “The Man I want to Be” nicely matches its pleading lyrical message with Paul Franlin’s keening steel-guitar line.
