Bon Jovi gave the ’80s some great jukebox anthems, songs like; ”You Give Love a Bad Name.” “Wanted, Dead or Alive,” and “Living on a Prayer.” Yet it’s still a shock when, in Showtime’s intimate documentary “When We Were Beautiful,” (Saturday, 9/8 central) Jon Von Jovi recalls that it’s been 25 years since his band first played Madison Square Garden. “It’s an honest look at what the relevance of the band is today,” says guitarist Richie Sambora of the film, which follows the Jersey boys as they perform in Dublin, London, even Abu Dhabi.
“You have a bunch of guys who are like a family, and that’s an anomaly in the music business.” Sambora opens up in “When We Were Beautiful,” about how his mates helped him through his divorce from Heather Locklear and the death of his father. “Just because you’re a rock-and-roll star,” Sambora says, “Does not make you exempt from life’s little tragedies.”
Check out “We Weren’t Born To Follow,” where Jon and the boys return with a hands-in-the-air anthem, their first single from their upcoming CD, “The Circle.”
