Taylor Hicks Goes “THE DISTANCE”

Highly Anticipated New Studio Album to be Released March 10
Following First Single, “What’s Right Is Right,” digitally on January 27

Platinum-selling singer/songwriter Taylor Hicks will thrill longtime fans, and inspire new audiences, with the release of his anticipated new studio album, The Distance, on March 10.  The album will be released on Hicks’ Modern Whomp Records label and distributed through a partnership with independent artist services company Artist To Market (A2M).  Debuting January 27 digitally is the first single “What’s Right Is Right,” a mid-tempo song about love and commitment, driven by funky keyboards and sax work.

Produced by Simon Climie (Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Faith Hill), and tapping the talents of guitarist Doyle Bramhall II, bassist Nathan East and drummer Abe Laboriel Jr., The Distance includes eleven tracks, some co-written by Hicks: “Wedding Day Blues,” “Seven Mile Breakdown,” “What’s Right is Right,” “Hide Nor Hair,” “Woman Gotta Have It,” “New Found Freedom,” “The Distance,” “Nineteen,” “I Live on a Battlefield,” “Yes We Can,” “Maybe You Should,” “Once Upon a Lover of Mine,” “Keepin It Real” and “Indiscriminate Act of Kindness.”

I have to admit, I wondered about the listing of Carlos Santana as a producer on albums like Supernatural:

But he seems to be showing up more and more in instances like the Taylor Hicks album. Maybe he’s really adding “producer” to all his other talents!

this is a warm and sweet sound, it sounds like a real old school soul hit, like an sweet old top 40 radio hit and there is room for this again. to me it sounds like where this guy’s heart is and i am glad he found himself in this album.

This is going to be a great album. I heard about a song on there that is about a wedding crash….obviously Wedding Day Blues. One of the musicians on the album is Tim Carmon, I had a lot of fun wikipedia’ing that guy. Wow, he’s played with everyone, even did the piano arrangements for the movie “Dream Girls”. I don’t see how this album won’t be a big “hit” in general.
peace,

Olsen,
I know the guy who wrote Wedding Day with Taylor. His name is Allen Little, a great song writer from Muscle Shoals, Alabama. I have heard the song, it is one of the best songs I’ve heard. it is about one hell of wedding crash. I think he has put a lot of time into this album. Him not being under the Idol roof anymore really excites me.
