Shia LaBoeuf arrest warrant issued for failing to show in court
Shia LaBeouf is a wanted man. A warrant is being issued for the 21-year-old actor’s arrest after he failed to show up for a court hearing.
He was supposed to appear before a judge after cops gave him with an unlawful smoking ticket.
LaBeouf, who is starring alongside Harrison Ford in the new Indiana Jones movie, was allegedly puffing away in a no smoking area of Burbank, California, when police spotted him.
The actor apparently lit up on the pavement outside a gift shop called Skyblupink on February 18 this year.
Burbank Police Department gave LaBeouf a ticket for unlawful smoking - a misdemeanor offence.
“I can confirm that Shia LaBeouf was given a ticket on February 18 this year,” a police spokesman said. “He was standing on the 300 block of North San Fernando. There is a no smoking ordinance in certain parts of Burbank, and this area is one of them.”
LaBeouf was due to appear in court - or have a lawyer appear on his behalf - Tuesday morning.
But neither the actor nor an attorney turned up for the 8.30am hearing and a judge ordered a $1,000 bench warrant be issued for his arrest.
“A bench warrant is to be issued because he didn’t show up,” a spokeswoman for Burbank Superior Court said. “It hasn’t actually been issued yet, but that’s what the judge has said. Mr. LaBeouf will either have to turn up to court or have an attorney appear on his behalf. This could happen at any time.”
The unlawful smoking ticket is not LaBoeuf’s first brush with the law.
The Disturbia star was arrested for misdemeanor criminal trespassing in November last year, after refusing to leave a Chicago Walgreens when asked by security. But the criminal charges were dropped on December 12.
