New Governor of New York David Paterson admits to extramarital affairs

The new Governor of New York has admitted to an affair, just days after taking office.

David Paterson was sworn in as Governor last week in the wake of Eliot Spitzer’s prostitution scandal. Now Paterson has confessed both he and wife Michelle had extramarital affairs, according to the New York Daily News. Paterson, 53, and Michelle, 46, tell the News that the affairs took place during a rocky period in their marriage. The politician said that his affair with the woman began in 1999 and lasted for two or three years.

“This was a marriage that appeared to be going sour at one point,” Paterson told the Daily News. “But I went to counseling and we decided that we wanted to make it work. Michelle is well aware of what went on.”

New York’s new First Couple reportedly agreed to speak up about their affairs after rumours began swirling Albany. “Like most marriages, you go through certain difficult periods,” Michelle Paterson said. “What’s important is for your kids to see you worked them out.”

Paterson has denied rumours he had a love child with another woman. “Don’t you think he’d take care of a child if he had one?” Michelle said. “I feel life is very fragile. You never know what could happen. That is why you shouldn’t judge people. I have a philosophy in life: You have to let people live their life. I feel my husband loves me and is devoted to the family. And I know he loves me. I am not going to worry about that stuff.”

Paterson has denied he used government or campaign fund to pay for any meetings with his former lover.
