Katie Holmes may have been pregnant before she met husband Tom Cruise, a report has claimed. According to The Inquirer, the actress was expecting a baby with ex-boyfriend Chris Klein when they split in March 2005. She is believed to have flown to Los Angeles to read for a film role with Cruise a month later. They were engaged in June and Holmes announced that she was pregnant with daughter Suri in October. A source told the newspaper that Klein, who starred in the American Pie movies, had told him Holmes was pregnant before her engagement to Cruise was announced. He said: “We were having dinner at Cafeteria, a restaurant in NY’s Chelsea district, when Chris blurted out ‘Dude, you know I got Katie preggers.’ There was a long silence. I realized Chris had said more than he intended. My next thought was: ‘What happened to the baby?’” The source added: “From the look in Chris’ eyes, I realized this was highly personal. I didn’t want to probe any further. We quickly went on to another topic. Chris never brought it up again, but I know he must be reminded of Katie’s pregnancy every time he sees her daughter.” Suri was born in April 2006, although the fact that she was not seen in public for five months sparked rumours that she may have arrived earlier than claimed.
