French newspaper l’Est Républicain, citing a source close to someone “present at the ceremony” said Mr Sarkozy, 52, and Miss Bruni, 40, exchanged vows at the presidential palace last Thursday after a highly publicised whirlwind romance. An Elysée spokesman neither denied nor confirmed the report, saying that “this information relates to Nicolas Sarkozy’s private life”. The news comes less than a week after the French leader confirmed reports he and Bruni were engaged and expecting their first child together. Sarkozy and the Italian stunner reportedly became a couple late last year in November 2007, just weeks after the French President divorced his wife Celia. Reports suggested the couple was planning to wed on February 9th but, at a press conference last week Sarkozy told the media, “There is a strong chance that you will learn about it (wedding) once it’s already been done.” Publicists for the French leader have refused to confirm or deny the wedding reports.
