Hip-hop star Wyclef Jean and supermodel Petra Nemcova were given an heroic welcome in Haiti on Monday, as they visited a school in the neighborhood where Wyclef was born. They were there to raise money for schools, as well as offer different programs to employ local women and provide the population with inexpensive meals. “Yele Haiti will provide computer labs, classrooms and counseling for jailed child gang members, help local women’s groups sell food in the seaside slum of Cite Soleil, and establish a youth scholarship and soccer program”, said the 35 year-old singer. “If you want to change a country, unfortunately, you’re not going to be able to help 8 million people at one time. But if you can get one or two or three and start to make that change, that will make the difference.” Jean, who arrived for the three-day visit Saturday, said his next step will be to set up a lobbying office in Washington to promote development in Haiti. “I’m always going to assist my country in the best way I can,” he said.
